Despite not competing anymore, the truck remained on Monster Jam's website for two years.This resulted in Gas Monkey Garage debuting in Anaheim. However, the Houston Texans won the AFC South title that year, so the January 9 Houston show was postponed until January 24. Gas Monkey Garage was originally supposed to debut in Houston on January 9, 2016.The body of Gas Monkey Garage is based off of the 1970 Dodge Coronet Super Bee project by Gas Monkey, which shares a similar paint scheme to the truck.Gas Monkey Garage is the first of two trucks to be created by Monster Jam to be sponsored by a Discovery Channel show, the second being BroDozer.Johnson would later announce his initial retirement from driving in March (Although he would return to driving the following year in Wild Card). The truck would make it's final appearance at Sao Paulo, Brazil on December 21. Linsey Weenk would also drive the truck for events in South Africa as a fill-in for Johnson, due to him having to help construct new trucks for FELD Motorsports. Although Johnson would be eliminated in the second round of racing by Jon Zimmer in Dragon, he would have higher success in freestyle, finishing tenth.Ģ019 marked the final year of competition for Gas Monkey Garage, as the truck competed exclusively in that year’s International tour. They would later be invited to compete in Monster Jam World Finals XIX. The truck would also win the racing competition in the second Toronto show. During the series, Johnson and the truck would win three overall event championships one in the series’ opener in Toronto, and two in Oklahoma City. In 2018, Gas Monkey Garage competed in Monster Jam Stadium Championship Series 4. Meanwhile, they would finish last in Freestyle. They would have a much better performance in Racing, make it all the way to the Semi-Final round, only to be defeated by Tyler Menninga and Grave Digger. Johnson and the truck would be invited to compete in Monster Jam World Finals XVIII. In 2017, Gas Monkey Garage competed in the FS1 Championship Series East. Meanwhile, Gas Monkey Garage would make a special appearance on Fast N’ Loud, where it would perform a car crush exhibition in front of the shop. They would also finish second to last in freestyle. During the show, both truck and driver would be defeated by Morgan Kane in Grave Digger, crashing in the process. Johnson would return to drive the truck at Monster Jam World Finals XVII. After Johnson suffered an injury, Joe Sylvester would drive the truck for several shows as a fill-in driver.
